Andy Rubin has created a new phone, the Essential Phone, to address shortcomings of mobile devices.
The Android creator introduced the Essential Phone on Tuesday, which holds 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space and has the capability of shooting 4K video with both its front and back cameras, according to CNET.
Rubin said part of his motivation behind this new device is how frustrating this world of technology has become for many consumers with "unnecessary features and products that don't work together," CNET reported.
He said he wanted to create a phone that would be simple for users.
"Just when I was about to drop another criticism it hit me: I am partly responsible for all of this," Rubin wrote on Essential.com. "For all the good Android has done to help bring technology to nearly everyone it has also helped create this weird new world where people are forced to fight with the very technology that was supposed to simplify their lives."
The Essential Phone starts at $699, according to Tech Crunch.
It features an edge-to-edge screen made of titanium and ceramic that covers most of the front of the 5.6-inch device. The mixture of these two materials reportedly makes the screen for this new phone more durable than other screens.
Rubin also has launched a venture called Playground, which is an incubator that will enable him to work on hardware projects beyond smartphones and assistant devices.
