Actress Anne Jeffreys, best known for her two decades on the ABC soap opera "General Hospital" and a string of Broadway musicals, has died at age 94.

Jeffreys was born in North Carolina in 1932 and got into the entertainment industry as a teen by becoming a junior model, according to The Wrap. She then studied to perform in the opera but ended up with starring roles in Broadway musicals such as “Kiss Me Kate,” “Carousel,” and “Camelot.”

In the 1950s, Jeffreys starred in the CBS sitcom “Topper” with her husband Robert Sterling. She had various guest appearances in the 1960s and '70s before signing on to play wealthy socialite Amanda Barrington on the soap “General Hospital” in 1984. She would play that role for 20 years and appear in the spinoff “Port Charles.”

Jeffreys and Sterling were married 55 years, from 1951 until his death in 2006, and had three sons. No details about her death were given.

"Anne was a beloved member of the General Hospital and Port Charles families," a "General Hopsital" spokesperson said. "We’re deeply saddened by the news of her passing and all feel so lucky to have known her and will never forget the many talents she brought to GH and Port Charles."

A statement on Jeffreys’ website said, “My life has been a full, happy and active one; and I hope I’ll always be as busy as a blind dog in a meat shop. I thrive on activity.”

Jeffreys’ fans and colleagues shared their condolences and memories of her on Twitter.
