An Anti-Inaugural Ball will rock Los Angeles on Friday – featuring Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy's Chuck D, and a reunited super group Prophets of Rage – and it wouldn't have been possible without Donald Trump.
The concert at the Teragram Ballroom is meant as a protest against Trump's inauguration as 45th president, Tom Morello, of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, told Rolling Stone magazine.
The "ball" will also feature performers Vic Mensa, Jackson Browne, Jack Black and the Los Angeles Freedom Choir.
On the East Coast, Broadway stars and other celebrities will host a New York City charity eveny after the inauguration to benefit liberal causes such as Planned Parenthood, NAACP, Sierra Club Foundation, Southern Poverty Law Center, and National Immigration Law Center, reported Entertainment Weekly.
That concert will feature Tony Award winners Chita Rivera, Kelli O’Hara, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Betty Buckley, Jessie Mueller, and Billy Porter. They will be joined by Sharon Gless, Andrea Martin, Bebe Neuwirth, Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez, Lillias White, Judy Gold, Caroline Rhea, Stephanie Mills, and Charles Busch.
Also, the rapper Common and the indie band the National will host a protest concert Thursday night in Washington, D.C. to benefit reproductive health and social justice.
"The Anti-Inaugural Ball is a celebration of resistance," said Morello told Rolling Stone. "Resistance to racism. Resistance to sexism. Resistance to homophobia. Resistance to bullying. Resistance to environmental devastation. Resistance to fascism. Resistance to Donald Trump. We are staring down the barrel of a dystopian nightmare unless we act now, unless we fight back now."
Morello, known for his political activism, has performed regularly with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, noted the Los Angeles Times. The musician said he plans to create "No Trump Zones" across the country.
"Bad presidents make for great music," said Morello per the Times. "Join us as we get loud and stand together to defend our rights, our country, and our planet."
Billboard magazine said Prophets of Rage kicked off its "Make America Rage" tour – a takeoff of Trump's "Make America Great Again" – at the Republican National Convention last year.
