Social media had a field day with the Academy Awards best picture mix up at the end of the 2017 Oscar ceremony Sunday night.
The Academy's longtime accounting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers took the fall for co-presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway reading the wrong envelope on live television, mistakenly giving the Oscar best picture award to "La La Land" instead of the correct winner "Moonlight," Deadline.com noted.
The embarrassing episode, reminiscent of Steve Harvey's 2015 blunder at the Miss Universe pageant when he announced the incorrect winner, forced "La La Land" producers to end their acceptance speeches after taking the stage and announcing the error.
Beatty said he hesitated initially to present the award when he saw Emma Stone's name on the card, who was given the Academy Award for best actress earlier.
Twitter exploded with a flurry of humorous and stunned responses.
