Beyonce and Jay Z's twins remained hospitalized a week after their secret birth – reportedly last Monday – for what only were described as “minor issues.”

News about the arrival of the two celebrity babies broke out on social media when Mathew Knowles, Beyonce's father, announced it on Twitter on Sunday:

Reports later emerged that doctors weren’t comfortable releasing the twins, said to have been born last Monday in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ, Beyonce had given birth to a boy and a girl but doctors opted to keep extend their stay in hospital after a "minor issue" surfaced.

The website said, according to sources, the 35-year-old pop queen remained in hospital with her newborn babies but the trio were expected to be "okay."

The secrecy about the birth and everyone’s state of health obviously raised public speculation, especially since Beyonce and Jay Z maintain a p.r. juggernaut and the millions of Queen Bee's super loyal fans were left out in the cold about the births.

The speculation ranged from real medical problems, for mother or babies, to conjecture that the rights to birth story had been sold and will come out in a polished package.

Rumors emerged about the births over the weekend, prior to Mathew Knowles' announcement, after two unidentified women were spotted delivering balloons reading "it's a boy" and "it's a girl" to the hospital.

The Daily Mail noted that one of the gifts was accompanied by an envelope adressed to "To B & J"

Also, Beyonce's sister, Solange Knowles, was spotted at the Los Angeles medical center, adding fuel to the fire.

Since then, social media has become a "hive" of activity surrounding the topic.

Responding to news of the birth, one Twitter user pointed out that Beyonce was known for her secrecy.

"Beyonce created a whole album in secrecy I ain't believing the twins are here until she says so herself! ‪#beyonce‪#beyoncetwins." said Manny & Marv.

There have been no further updates regarding the births and no official statement from Beyonce and Jay Z.

However, People quoted a source close to the family: "Bey and Jay are thrilled and have started sharing the news with their family and closest friends."
