The "Big Bang Theory" engagement between Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) in Thursday's episode was welcome news for the legions of fans that follow the quirky CBS comedy and who have watched the relationship mature over the past seven seasons.
In the season's penultimate episode, the pair returned home from an apparently strenuous day with Cuoco's character expressing her desire to make smarter choices in life, which she quickly followed with the suggestion to Galecki that they should get married.

"Why? Because I’m a smart decision?" a skeptical Galecki asked, to which Cuoco responded, "yeah."
"So I'm like a bran muffin. I’m the boring thing you’re choosing because I’m good for you," Galecki responds.
Cuoco exclaims, "What does it matter, the point is I'm choosing you."
"It matters a lot. I don't want to be a bran muffin," Galecki whines. "I wanna be a Cinnabon, a strawberry Pop-Tart. Something you're excited about even though it can give you diabetes."
After a multi-minute argument, the characters eventually embrace after Galecki gets on one knee and produces a ring that he awkwardly admits he had been keeping in his wallet for several years.
In real life,
Cuoco is married to pro tennis player Ryan Sweeting, having tied the knot during a New Year's Eve ceremony in Southern California last year.
Galecki, who in real life secretly dated Cuoco for two years before their 2010 split, was said to be in attendance at the wedding along with several other cast members,
Us Weekly reported.
"Big Bang Theory" fans didn't allow Cuoco's real-life marriage to get in their way of the show's engagement, however, as reflected by a series of tweets that celebrated the union Thursday night, as
