Nebraska Football Coach Bo Pelini led his players onto the field for spring football with a cat in his arms, an obvious attempt to inflame a Cornhusker crowd familiar with a fake Twitter account that pokes fun at Pelini by suggesting he's a closet cat lover.
After exiting the tunnel at Memorial Stadium for the Cornhuskers spring game, Pelini raised the cat overhead to the cheers of his players and the more than 60,000 fans in attendance.
The fake Twitter account,
with the handle @FauxPelini, was created in 2010, according to Fox Sports, and shows the head coach wearing a cozy turtleneck sweater with a long-hair cat in his arms resembling an internet meme of a man holding a cat and awkwardly staring into the camera. The fake Twitter account has nearly 90,000 followers.
In January, Pelini acknowledged the fake account with a joking request demanding he get his cat back, to which the Twitter page's administrators jokingly complied.
"I thought that we tried to have a bit of fun today," Pelini told reporters as he kicked off his post-scrimmage press conference,
according to the Bleacher Report.
"The cat was probably a little freaked out," Pelini laughed. "Was just trying to have a little bit of fun."
It wasn't reported who owned the cat that Pelini held overhead.
