Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown who is currently in a medically induced coma at an Atlanta hospital, is not legally married to Nick Gordon, a family attorney said this week.
Despite media reports and publicly referring to each other has "husband and wife," Brown and Gordon never actually wed.
"We are currently investigating the events that led to the hospitalization of Bobbi Kristina," Christopher Brown, one of Bobby Brown's lawyers, said in a statement Tuesday. "To correct earlier reports, Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon."
Brown, 21, was moved from North Fulton Hospital to
Emory University Hospital on Monday, 11Alive.com reported. Family members told the television station that Brown continues to breathe with the help of a ventilator and briefly opened her eyes.
Gordon reportedly found her facedown in a bathtub in her Roswell home Saturday. Some say the incident is chilling, given the fact that Houston died in a bathtub in 2012 — an accidental drowning combined with the effects of heart disease and cocaine use.
According to RadarOnline.com, Bobbi Kristina Brown had said previously that she and Gordon were married in a secret ceremony in January 2014, upsetting some family members.
The gossip website reported that the family banned 25-year-old Gordon from the hospital Saturday after he allegedly scuffled with police officers there.
"You could hear scuffling," around her room, a source told RadarOnline. "About maybe two to three minutes later, they came back with this person and they had their hands on him like holding onto him and you could see that everybody was distressed."
The source said that the person taken out of the room was later identified as Gordon, who was swarmed by hospital security and police who "physically escorted him from the floor . . . The whole incident was very upsetting."
Bobby Brown released a statement Tuesday asking for privacy.
"We continue to request privacy in this matter," the statement read. "Please allow for our family to deal with this matter and give Bobbi Kristina the love and support she needs at this time."
