The Boston Yeti, a mystery person who has been dressing up in a white, furry costume and roaming the city, is back, this time helping snowed-in residents dig out from the latest storm and posting
selfies — or Yelfies — on its very own Twitter page.
First sighted in January in Somerville, Massachusetts, the Boston Yeti has become a social media sensation.
His goal is to “ignite a flicker of joy in an otherwise cold and
windy landscape," the Yeti told ABC News this week.
That cold snow is a “Yeti's natural habitat," he said, adding that "my wish is for those snowed-in and stuck to hang in there, see the storms through, and think spring!"
But the Boston Yeti isn't just good for a laugh. He's been helping snow-fatigued residents shovel sidewalks and dig out their cars.
Bostonians and others in the state could sure use a laugh. The city was pummeled with two feet of snow this week in a storm that added to last month's and broke the 30-day snowfall record of 71.8 inches. Snow continued to fall Tuesday.
"Snow storms are funny because a sense of camaraderie develops in the community," the Yeti told ABC News. "We're all in it together. If a car gets stuck, folks drop what they're doing to help push it along. If someone is struggling with a shovel and a neighbor has a snowblower, they're usually quick to lend a hand. For me, I wanted to lend a claw and do my part, too."
His part might just be lightening moods.
