A boy discovered five people shot to death in a Delaware home near Wilmington Monday night as authorities continue to investigate, KYW-TV reported.
Neighbors said a child was dropped off at the home about 7:30 p.m. in New Castle County, Delaware, the television station noted.
"A neighbor said she watched him get out of a red truck, go inside the house and then rush right back out, so apparently he had to have found them because no one else was around," neighbor Alisha Garvin told the television station.
WCAU-TV reported that family members and neighbors identified the gunshot victims as 42-year-old Matthew Edwards, 41-year-old Julie Edwards and their children Brinley, Jacob and Paxton, all under the age of eight.
The Delaware State Police said in a statement that the bodies were found in the upstairs area of the residence. The statement added that its homicide unit is investigating the incident but believed at this time there was no concern for safety in the surrounding area.
"With a heavy heart, our thoughts and prayers are with this family," Delaware State Police Sgt. Richard Bratz said, according to WCAU-TV.
The television station said children's toys, including a slide and kiddie pool, were on the lawn outside the home. Brian Covenko, another neighbor, said that his children played with the Edwards children before the incident.
"There's three kids in there, wife and husband," Covenko said to WCAU-TV. "Kind of in shock as we're really friends with them."
Neighbors told WCAU-TV television station that Matthew Edwards recently shared that he lost his job as a truck driver, but police have not revealed a motive for the shooting. Another neighbor told WPVI-TV that the couple was having marital problems.
"The bodies have been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death," Delaware State Police said.
