Rumors that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are headed for a split appear to be more false fallout from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's announced divorce.
InTouch Weekly reported that Aniston's marriage to Theroux was on the rocks, pegging the troubles to insecurities from Aniston's former marriage to Pitt. But reps for Aniston dismissed the claim, telling The Independent that “The story in InTouch is a complete fabrication.”
The InTouch story isn't the only attempt to tie the Brangelina hoopla back to Aniston’s past relationship with Pitt.
Aniston’s name was trending for two days as memes portrayed the actress as celebrating the drama surrounding Jolie and Pitt’s divorce, The Independent noted. Wednesday morning, The New York Post featured a headline — “Brangelina 2004 - 2016” — and a cover photo of Aniston’s laughing face to go along with it.
The rumors come just three months after InTouch Weekly released a front page headline claiming that Aniston was pregnant with a “miracle” baby, which the actress denied in a Huffington Post blog post denouncing the "sport-like scrutiny" of women.
Wynter Mitchell, “Pop Rocket” host and digital consultant for US Weekly, told The Independent in July that these kinds of stories about Aniston likely will continue.
“Her life choices, which any woman is allowed to make, have been put on a pedestal by readers,” Mitchell explained. “The editorialization of her journey: hard work, superstardom, fairytale marriage, nasty divorce, finding love again, is an arc many can relate to. It fits the ‘celebrity’ narrative that a natural progression in her relationships would include children.
The rumors regarding Aniston and her husband are among the collateral damage that’s been brought on by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce, Refinery29 noted, pointing to earlier rumors that Pitt’s co-star Marion Cotillard had a role in the Brangelina split
Cotillard denied those rumors in a lengthy post on her Instagram account.
