Bruce Jenner will sit down with ABC's Diane Sawyer to discuss his journey to becoming a woman, which is a scoop the former World News anchor.

Page Six confirmed on Monday that the former Olympian and patriarch of the Kardashian family has caused some "internal consternation" at NBC by opting for the ABC interview with Sawyer. NBCUniversal owns the E! network, which is reportedly going to run a docuseries or reality TV show about Jenner's transition.

People magazine reported that the interview with Sawyer is likely to be used to help generate buzz ahead of the docuseries premiere, and will likely lend a more elevated tone to the discussion of gender identity, which has been increasingly featured in the public discourse as of late.

Time magazine, for instance, featured Laverne Cox, a transgender actor on the Netflix series "Orange is the New Black," on one of its covers last year. In the cover story, trans issues were called "America’s next civil rights frontier."

Similarly, Amazon last year released its first season of "Transparent," which features Jeffrey Tambor as Mort, a transgender senior.

"I think everyone goes through things in life, and I think that story and what Bruce is going through, I think he'll share whenever the time is right," Kim Kardashian said last week on Entertainment Tonight, where she hinted at Jenner's upcoming series. "I feel like that's his journey to talk about."

"Of course we support Bruce 100 percent," she added.
