Bruce Jenner's mother confirmed that her son is transitioning to become a woman, and said his decision makes her proud.
"I just learned about [his transition]," Esther Jenner
told Radar Online in its exclusive report published Tuesday. "Bruce filled me in, and we had a very long, long, long talk about it."
Esther said of her 65-year-old son that he will continue to be a positive force in all of his life's roles, regardless of his gender identity.
"I have never been more proud of Bruce for who he is, himself as a father, as an Olympian, a wonderful public speaker. He instills enthusiasm in people. He’s gifted."
Last week, Kim Kardashian dropped a few hints about the family patriarch, hinting that he would reveal his transition in his own way. It was soon reported that he was filming a docuseries for the E! network, and would promote its kickoff by granting an exclusive interview to ABC's Diane Sawyer.
Esther said she "did not know of his" desire for a transition, but concluded that she was most proud of him "for what he’s allowing himself to do."
"I am more proud of him now than when he stood on that podium and put the gold medal around his neck. He deserves all the respect."
