A 1968 Ford Mustang that’s been missing for decades has been found, and a Ford expert confirmed that the automobile was used during the filming of the classic thriller “Bullitt.”
The car was found in a Mexican junkyard, according to Fox Sports. The last time the Mustang was seen was almost 50 years ago.
“I’m 100 percent sure it’s authentic,” Kevin Marti, a Ford expert, told Fox News last week.
The Ford wasn’t in the best condition when it was originally discovered by Hugo Sanchez, Digital Trends noted.
Sanchez fixed up the car so that it would resemble the “Eleanor” Mustang from the film “Gone in 60 Seconds.”
However, once Sanchez became aware of the car’s history, he and a friend, Ralph Garcia, reached out to Marti Auto Works.
Marti Auto Works has access to all historical records of Ford’s built between 1967 and 2012, according to Digital Trends.
Marti, the owner of the company, believes the car was used as one of the two stunt cars from “Bullitt.”
This comes just a year before the 50th anniversary of “Bullitt,” the Houston Chronicle noted.
The classic Ford is expected to be redone to look as it did in the 1968 film by the time the anniversary comes around next year.
Marti said classic cars have been discovered at junkyards in the past.
“It’s not the first time one of these old movie cars showed up in a junkyard, but it’s rare,” Marti told Fox News.
