The online security folks at Burger King must be getting grilled after the official Twitter account for the fast-food chain was hacked on Monday morning and rival McDonald's was promoted.

The hacked chain's logo, with the words "Burger King" between two yellow buns, was changed to feature McDonald's golden arches on the @BurgerKing profile image.

"We just got sold to McDonalds! Look for Mcdonalds in a hood near you," one tweet said  shortly after the logo swap.

The hacked account also sent out a series of drug-related tweets, including allegations that Burger King employees shoot heroin and snort Percocet in bathrooms.

"Try our new BK(℠) Bath Salt! 99% Pure MDPV! Buy a Big Mac, get a gram free!" another tweet said.

The official McDonald's twitter handle said it had nothing to do with the hack.

The social media manager for fast-food competitor Wendy's said she couldn't believe what she was seeing.

The hacking exceeded an hour, and reports said the Burger King press office was unresponsive, likely because of the President's Day holiday.

Twitter quickly suspended the account and the defamatory tweets were deleted.

Despite the controversial stream, the hacking may prove to be a good thing: The account gained more than 30,000 followers, bringing the account total to more than 110,000 followers.

Burger King released an official statement soon after the account was restored on Monday.

"It has come to our attention that the Twitter account of the BURGER KING® brand has been hacked," the statement said. "We have worked directly with administrators to suspend the account until we are able to re-establish our legitimate site and authentic postings. We apologize to our fans and followers who have been receiving erroneous tweets about other members of our industry and additional inappropriate topics."

Burger King has been embroiled in a horsemeat controversy in Europe after horse DNA was found in some of its offerings in the UK. Its beef supplier has been dropped while the company addresses and investigates the issue.
