Cain’s Lack of Staff Hurts Efforts in Fla.

Herman Cain supporters in Florida are having a hard time finding anyone who works for the candidate, the St. Petersbug Times reported Thursday. There are enthusiastic volunteers, but few real staffers.

Alex Patton, a Republican consultant based in Gainesville, told the paper two Republican activists tried to reach out to the campaign but couldn’t get anyone to return their calls.
Cain allies in Florida said some top-tier professionals are poised to join the businessman's campaign operation, but others question whether that will come quickly enough.
“It’s not happening as fast as I’d like to see it, but with how quickly this [surge] happened, I think they're doing the best they can,'' said state Rep. Scott Plakon, R-Longwood, a Cain backer.
“Given the choice of having a campaign apparatus and a candidate that doesn’t have the support or does not inspire the base, or having a candidate without a campaign apparatus and who has the support and inspires the base, I’ll take the latter," he said.
