A Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume themed around her former Olympic days as Bruce Jenner has caused massive backlash in the transgender community, TMZ reported Tuesday.

The costume, titled "I am Cait," was based upon the design of Bruce Jenner's vintage 1976 decathlon kit and includes a decathlete's jersey featuring his race number 935, as well as the blue shorts he worse to his Olympic glory, a gold medal and a long-haired wig.

The $44.95 get-up was available on eBay but was yanked after several transgender charities criticized the costume, although versions of it remained on sale at Amazon as of Tuesday.

"This is a reminder of how much is left to do to combat the abuse trans people face every day," a spokesperson from national LGBT charity, Stonewall, said, according to The Telegraph. "This costume reduces a marginalized group to the butt of a joke. It should be taken off the shelves."

Dr. Jane Hamlin, president of the transgender support group the Beaumont Society, said the community had been battered by the media lately but had hoped that the public would have grown tired of this "and realized it is not funny."

This comes as the Department of Health and Human Services seeks to find a legal U.S. definition of gender "on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective, and administrable," with a proposal that legal gender be male or female as determined by genitalia at birth.

This is according to The New York Times, which obtained an HHS memo requesting clarity on gender definition under a federal civil rights law banning gender discrimination in education programs.

"Sex means a person's status as male or female based on immutable biological traits identifiable by or before birth," according to the memo obtained by the Times. "The sex listed on a person's birth certificate, as originally issued, shall constitute definitive proof of a person's sex unless rebutted by reliable genetic evidence."
