Candice Bergen, an Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress, is coming back to Broadway, where she'll join Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Martin Sheen, and the rest of the rotating cast for the return of A.R. Gurney's "Love Letters."
The last time Bergen, 68, was on a Broadway stage was when she appeared in "Gore Vidal's The Best Man" in 2012
as Alice Russell, according to BroadwayWorld.com. Before that, she played Darlene in "Hurlyburly" in 1984.
"Love Letters," a one-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, first opened on Broadway in 1989 with
Colleen Dewhurst and Jason Robards, according to the New York Post. The revival will take place at New York's Nederlander Theatre under Gregory Mosher's direction.

"Gurney's romantic, heart-breaking and somewhat autobiographical play has long been a favorite of mine," Nelle Nugent, the show's producer, said in a statement Thursday. "I am so excited to have the chance to bring this landmark play back to Broadway featuring some of the greatest actors of our time."
The show tells the story of two friends who have stayed in touch via notes, cards, and letters for more than 50 years.
"From second grade, through summer vacations, to college, and well into adulthood, they have spent a lifetime discussing their hopes and ambitions, dreams, and disappointments, and victories and defeats,"
reads a Broadway.com synopsis of the play. "But long after the letters are done, the real question remains: Have they made the right choices or is the love of their life only a letter away?"
Bergen, who will appear in the show with Alda from Nov. 8 to Dec. 5, will be in good company — Brian Dennehy and Mia Farrow will star in the play from Sept. 13 to Oct. 10; Carol Burnett has signed on from Oct. 11 to Nov. 7; Stacy Keach and Diana Rigg from Dec. 6 to Jan. 9; and Anjelica Huston and Martin Sheen from Jan. 10 to Feb. 1, the Post reported.
Bergen won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe during her run as a television anchor in the series "Murphy Brown." She was nominated for an Academy Award in 1980 for her role in the movie "Starting Over."
She is slated to appear in the upcoming movie "Merry Friggin' Christmas," opposite Robin Williams, Joel McHale, and Lauren Graham, though the film does not have a release date yet.
