Carrie Fisher revealed that she had an alleged affair with a married Harrison Ford during the filming of the original "Star Wars" in 1976, a secret she kept for nearly 40 years, People magazine reported Tuesday.
Fisher, the daughter of Hollywood starlet Debbie Reynolds, was 19 when he portrayed Princess Leia in the now iconic film series and Ford was 33 playing the space pirate Hans Solo at the time.
"It was so intense," Fisher, now 60, told People exclusively in advance of her book "The Princess Diarist," which is due out in hardback next Tuesday, according to Amazon. "It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend."
Fisher told People that she gave Ford a heads up about revealing the romance in the book, which is a recollection of stories about what happened behind the scenes during the "Star Wars," and he received a draft.
"I looked over at Harrison. A hero's face — a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow," Fisher wrote in the book, per People. "How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?"
Fisher and Ford recreated their roles for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which was released in December, 2015 to record box office numbers.
Ford, now 74, was married to Mary Marquardt at the time of the "Star Wars" shooting, AceShowbiz.com noted. They were married from 1964 to 1979. Ford went on the marry screenwriter Melissa Mathison from 1983 to 2004 and married his third wife actress Calista Flockhart in 2010.
Ford has not commented on the alleged romance, People noted. Thoughts about the Fisher-Ford affair among fans on social media were wide ranging.
