Charlo Greene, a reporter in Alaska, uttered an obscenity on air and quit her job after announcing she owns a marijuana club, leaving a clearly stunned co-worker to take over the newscast after she walked off the set.
On Sunday, Greene announced on KTVA-TV’s 10 p.m. newscast that she owned Alaska Cannabis Club, a medical marijuana business.

Greene was reporting on the hotly contested issue of whether Alaska will legalize marijuana. She said, “Now everything you've heard is why I, the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy toward fighting for freedom and fairness, which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska. And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, f— it, I quit."
Responses to Greene’s abrupt leave-taking were mixed.
“Very Unprofessional, but FUNNY! I Love A Good Laugh,” one person wrote on the video posted on Alaska Dispatch’s YouTube account.
“No class and borderline cruel. It should carry a criminal charge similar to public indecency, to knowing[ly] use profane language while live in from of millions of viewers, adult and children,” another wrote. “Quitting your job doesn't take all that, just leave. It will be FUNNY AS HELL if Alaska chooses NOT to legalize marijuana. She'll be lucky to get a job pressure washing the sidewalks on the same block that news station is located.”
After quitting on-air, Greene went on the indiegogo crowdfunding website, where she’s fundraising dollars to convince voters to cast in favor of legal marijuana in the state, to partially explain her decision. “I just quit my news reporting job on live TV to announce that I am redirecting all of my energy toward helping to end a failed drug policy that has ruined the lives of far too many Americans,” she wrote.
In an accompanying video, she added, "There comes a time in each and every one of our lives where we must choose to continue to spectate or stand up for what's right," she said. "Why are Americans arrested every 37 seconds, Alaskans every 4.3 hours? Why should an aspiring someone lose their ability to earn a higher education, to become someone they were not meant to be? And why should you lose the ability to get public assistance in times of struggle and need? Marijuana?"
