Peter Mayhew, 69, was stopped briefly while boarding a Dallas-bound flight so TSA agents could inspect the walking stick shaped like the science fiction film's most iconic weapon. Mayhew, who is taller than 7 feet, claimed he needed it to walk.

TSA agents reportedly allowed Mayhew to keep his cane, only after he began posting pictures of the incident on Twitter.

But the agency denied those claims in a statement to The Associated Press.

"Because of the unusual weight of the passenger’s cane, a security officer alerted a supervisor," the statement read. "Less than five minutes later the passenger and cane were cleared to travel. Social media played no role in the determination."

Mayhew had been in Denver for a ComicCon appearance.
