The first official mascot of the Chicago Cubs, a cuddly cub named Clark, made his debut at a children’s organization Monday and will meet fans this weekend at the Cubs Convention, the team announced. Some think he looks a lot like Alvin the chipmunk.
One of only four teams in the country without a mascot, the Cubs listened to fans who wanted more family-oriented team and invited
Clark to join the team, a press release said.

“The concept of a mascot who interacts in the community, engages with young fans and is respectful of the game was widely supported,” the release said. “Clark will serve that very role as a champion for Cubs Charities' mission of targeting improvements in health and wellness, fitness and education for children and families at risk.”
The bear Cub will go to schools, hospitals and greet fans as they enter Wrigley Field during games.
Clark already has social media accounts. He can be found on
Twitter, @clarkthecub, and on
Facebook.
ABC News made the observation that Clark bears an uncanny resemblance to Alvin the Chipmunk.
“The Cubs appeared to have taken a more alternative turn with their furry mascot: Clark’s hat faces backward, and he looks like he might turn deadly the moment you root for the White Sox,” ABC noted.
Chicagoside came up with the “Top Ten Pickup Lines for Clark the Cub,” including “Seriously, where are my pants?” and “If you hook up with me now, I’ll make you happy in 2016.”
As jokes flourished, sports columnist Michael Citro, who covers Ohio State athletics tweeted:
