The much anticipated reunion of the R&B group Outkast did not live up to billing but Pharrell Williams pleased with a star-studded set as the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival wrapped up Sunday.

The music festival, simply known as Coachella, began as a small event for indie and alternative rockers in 1999 but is expected to draw more than 200,000 the Indio, Calif. area this year, according to USA Today.

Williams, who continued his hot streak with his current Oscar-nominated song "Happy" near the top of the Billboard charts, brought a stream of stars on the stage with him including Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Busta Rhymes and Gwen Stefani.

Williams performed "Blurred Lines," which he sang with Robin Thicke last year, along with "Get Lucky," in which he provided vocals for the band Daft Punk, while closing out with "Happy."

USA Today's Bruce Fessier wrote that Friday's OutKast reunion "didn't live up to expectations" though fans did find excitement in the group's rendition of one of its biggest hits "Hey Ya." Outkast, which features Andre3000 (Andre Benjamin) and Big Boi (Antwon Patton), was one of the most anticipated performances at the Coachella festival this year.

Alternative rockers Arcade Fire, which brought up 1980s icon Debbie Harry for a number, took a shot of the burgeoning Coachella VIP only area to the excitement of fans, according to Reuters.

"We've been coming here for many years now, so it's an honor to be headlining," Win Butler, Arcade Fire's front man told the audience. "People are dreaming to get in (the VIP area), but it super sucks in there, so don't worry about it."

Arcade Fire teamed with Harry for her 1979 hit "Heart of Glass."

There were other surprises during Coachella's first week. Rapper Nas brought Jay Z and Puff Daddy to the stage Saturday as he performed songs from his album "Illmatic." Jay Z's wife, Beyonce joined her sister Solange Knowles on stage Saturday to dance to one of her little sister's songs.
