Retired Gen. Colin Powell posted a black-and-white "selfie" photograph he took of himself 60 years ago, pointing out that he was a selfie pro long before the Internet.

Former Secretary of State Powell, 76, posted the photo for Throwback Thursday, which is when social media users post old pictures.

He tagged Ellen DeGeneres’ Facebook page, taking a humorous poke at the talk-show comedian whose selfie with a lot of famous faces at the Oscars broke the record for most retweeted photo and “crashed” Twitter.

The photo of a young and handsome Powell, wearing a vest and tie, was instantly popular online.

So far, DeGeneres hasn’t responded to Powell’s post.

Most of Powell’s posts on Facebook (he doesn’t have a Twitter account) are in a more serious vein, talking about upcoming events where he’ll speak or honoring soldiers and others. But humor may make him an Internet sensation yet as since his selfie is going viral.

On a short CBS News story about the impressive selfie, though, a couple people made notes on the state of the room where Powell took his selfie.

"Colin, clean up your room! If I told you once I told you a thousand times!" wrote one commenter. Another added, “I thought the same thing! I guess the Army taught him a thing or two about keeping a neat environment. Great photo.”
