“Roseanne” is back, and with her solid ratings and a congratulatory call from President Trump it’s safe to say other conservative TV show characters can find a place among the 18 million viewers who switched on to watch her two-episode premier.
It wasn’t always like this though.
Previous TV shows with conservative undertones such as Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” have been criticized and even canceled by networks, The Washington Post reported, but the success of the “Roseanne” reboot has sparked interest in more fare that might appeal to viewers to the right of Hollywood.
Allen and “Last Man Standing” are now at the top of the Fox reboot list, TMZ reported.
Here’s a look at four other TV show characters besides “Roseanne” and Allen in “Last Man Standing” who have charmed conservatives:
1. Jack Bauer in “24” – Kiefer Sutherland thrilled in the lead role of the Los Angeles-based counter-terrorism agent, according to Business Insider. The series, which was themed around post-9/11 Republican politics and became known for its conservative views, debuted in 2001.
2. Elliot Reed in “Scrubs” – Sarah Chalke did an excellent job of bringing the goofy, neurotic character of Dr. Elliot Reed to life in the medical comedy series, winning conservative hearts by proudly declaring to be a Republican on numerous occasions despite receiving grief from her co-workers, according to Future Female Leaders. The series ran for nine seasons from 2001 to 2010, per IMDB.
3. Danny Reagan in “Blue Bloods” – The show which premiered in 2010 saw former “New Kids on the Block” bandmember-turned-actor Donnie Wahlberg take on the role of a New York City officer with conservative viewpoints, according to Business Insider.
4. Schmidt in “New Girl” – The lovable character with quirky one-liners, played by Max Greenfield, is known to be an out-and-proud conservative, TV Line noted. “New Girl” premiered in 2011 and immediately won audiences over with its witty humor.
