Eight classic corvettes were swallowed by a sinkhole that opened up underneath the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., early Wednesday.
The hole opened at about 5:40 a.m. local time, Bowling Green city spokeswoman Kim Lancaster
told The Associated Press.

The sinkhole caused a power outage, which triggered an alarm, Wendell Strode, the museum's Executive Director,
told the television station WDRB.
The problem occurred in the museum's domed section, which was finished in 1994. The sinkhole was estimated by the fire department to be about 40 feet across and 25 to 30 feet deep, according to WDRB.
Six of the cars were owned by the museum. They included a 1962 black Corvette, a 1984 PPG Pace Car, a 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette, a 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette, a 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette and a 2009 white 1.5 Millionth Corvette. The other two — a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil — were on loan from General Motors, the AP reported.
Strode told WDRB that he couldn't determine how much the Corvettes were worth.
GM only builds the iconic car in Bowling Green, and the museum is scheduled to host the 2014 Corvette Caravan in September, to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
