Costco is being sued after reportedly tainted chicken salad sold to a Utah family made a 20-year-old woman fall critically ill. She is still feeling its effects almost two years later.
Chloe Rodgerson of Highland was one of 19 people taking legal action against Costco for contracting E. coli poisoning after ingesting chicken salad in 2015, Fox News reported.
She was put in ICU at the end of October 2015 after vomiting blood.
“"They were checking me for lupus, they were checking me for Crohn's disease, or a combination of a bunch of different diseases. Nothing was adding up until we got a call from the FDA asking if we'd consumed Costco chicken salad,” Rodgerson told Fox News.
She explained how she had contracted “the worst type of E. coli, which was 'e-hec 0157' that completely eats up your system.”
As a result, Rodgerson suffered hemolytic uremic syndrome which led to renal failure, epilepsy and diabetes. She had to eventually undergo kidney transplant and continues to have various health problems stemming from contracting E. coli, Fox News said.
Business Insider reported that Rodgerson has since filed a $2 million lawsuit against Costco in hopes of making up some of the financial losses incurred in hospital bills over the past two years.
“I don’t have $2 million and I’m not going to have sufficient resources to keep myself alive going forward in the future," Rodgerson told Fox News on her decision to sue.
Costco hasn’t commented though both Fox News and Business Insider reached out to it.
Comment, however, is never far away with the social media around. Some customers have voiced support for Rodgerson, for eample:
