After discovering a boy in his daughter's room, a Houston-area dad shot and killed the 17-year-old male early Thursday morning.

A Harris County Sheriff's office spokesperson said officers responded to a 911 call around 2:20 a.m. local time.

The father was told by one of his other children that someone was in his 16-year-old daughter's room, MyFoxHouston.com reported. The father then entered her room with a gun and reportedly discovered the two teenagers in bed. The daughter denied knowing the boy.

A confrontation ensued, in which father asked the boy to identify himself and instructed him not to move. When the teen reached for something, he was fatally shot by the girl's father, according to MyFoxHouston.

The teen wasn't carrying a gun, and the daughter later told police that she knew him and let him into the home.

"You just feel terrible for the families," neighbor Ryan Finn told MyFoxHouston. "You just kind of reflect on both of these families' lives have changed forever."

The father was not arrested and a prosecutor doubts there will be charges filed, but the case will be referred to a grand jury.
