Dan Aykroyd is reportedly recovering at home from "a minor stomach ailment" after he was rushed to a Santa Monica
hospital Saturday morning, TMZ reported.
The Los Angeles Fire Department told TMZ that a paramedics crew arrived at Aykroyd's home around 10 a.m., when the former "Saturday Night Live" and "Ghostbusters" star, 63, complained of stomach pain. He was transported to the hospital but doctors there were not able to pinpoint what exactly was causing the pain.
A source told the celebrity gossip site that Aykroyd was eventually released and has been resting at home.
Last month, Aykroyd publicly came to the defense of the new, all-female "Ghostbusters" movie scheduled for release on July 15. He posted a message on his Facebook page May 29 giving a thumbs up to the film, which stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Aykroyd is listed as one of the film's
executive producers, noted the BBC News.
The new "Ghostbusters" has come under scrutiny after its first trailer earned more "dislikes" than any other movie trailer shown on
YouTube, the BBC News reported in May. At that time, viewers had given it more than 647,600 dislikes.
The Hollywood Reporter said last week that Aykroyd's cameo role in the movie was used in a television trailer in the United Kingdom. But the clip suggest that Aykroyd will not be renewing his role as Ray Stantz.
The original "Ghostbusters," starring Aykroyd and Bill Murray, made $295 million worldwide when it was
released in 1984, according to Box Office Mojo. It was the second top grossing movie that year behind Eddie Murphy's "Beverly Hills Cop," noted the movie website.
Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, who all appeared in the first "Ghostbusters" and its sequel in 1989, are all listed as making appearances in the new "Ghostbusters."
