Late rock icon David Bowie made a "Twin Peaks" cameo posthumously through digital trickery, reprising his character of FBI agent Phillip Jeffries from archive footage.
Bowie originated the character in the 1992 film "Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me," which is where the clips used in Sunday's episode of "Twin Peaks: The Return" came from, Billboard magazine reported.
The Jeffries character, which "Entertainment Tonight" described as "mentally unhinged," appeared in as part of a dream sequence of FBI agent Gordon Cole, who was played by the show's creator David Lynch.
Billboard said a note at the end of Sunday's episode dedicated it to Bowie’s memory.
"Twin Peaks: The Return" is the Showtime network sequel to David Lynch's 1990-91 series that aired on ABC. Kyle MacLachlan returned to star in the sequel, set 25 year after the original television series ended.
Actor Harry Goaz, who reprises his part as Deputy Andy Brennan, told the Dallas Morning News last year that Bowie was scheduled to make a cameo role on the new "Twin Peaks" but died before it could be shot.
Bowie, called one of the most influential musicians of his era, died in January 2016 of cancer at the age of 69, the BBC News noted. The singer battled with cancer for 18 months before dying.
Fans were appreciative of Bowie's appearance on social media.
