David Hasselhoff has revealed that KITT, the famous car from his hit 1980s TV series "Knight Rider," was recently sold for more than $150,000 to support charity.

The actor and singer expressed to students at the Cambridge Union on Saturday his happiness with the series, which continues to impact the world in positive ways.

"I can’t believe 'Knight Rider' affected so many people in such a positive way. I just sold my car for $150,000 to a guy in Turkey," he said, according to The Daily Express

The 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was given to Hasselhoff for his 60th birthday in 2012 by its designer, Jennifer Catano. It was heavily modified to resemble and function just like the original KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) portrayed in the series, complete with "scissor doors, a W-shaped steering wheel, flickering red and yellow LEDs on the dashboard, and more than 4,000 sound effects."

Hasselhoff drove the street-legal car around Europe — and even netted a few tickets — before donating it to Julien's Auctions' Hollywood Legends 2014 sale to benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation. According to the auction listing, the item was on display at the Museum of Style Icons in Ireland until April 27.

According to MSN Entertainment, KITT was just one of the items he donated, along with his "Harley-Davidson motorcycle, awards for his singing career, a lifeguard's jacket from the set of 'Baywatch,' and his acoustic guitar." KITT fetched three times what was expected, he told the audience.

During the speech, Hasselhoff also commented on his nickname, saying "The Hoff found me, I didn’t find the Hoff. I picked it up. I said, 'Dad, you know all the sh** I took for the name Hasselhoff — now it’s the most famous name in the world."

Jimmy Kimmel was among those who helped promote the charity auction last month by lying on top of a giant replica of the "Baywatch"-era Hoff.
