President Donald Trump said on Thursday he never made the comment that the White House "is a real dump," calling reports that quoted him earlier in the week "fake news."

Golf magazine posted a story online Tuesday saying that Trump made the comment to visitors at his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. The story said the president explained his frequent visits to his resorts since becoming president were because, "That White House is a real dump."

Sports Illustrated, which also reported the comment, said the White House has had a rat problem, but added that it was "still the White House."

Trump fired back in a Twitter post:

Keeping the White House up to par is a big job. According to Scholiastic.com, the White House has 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms on six levels and more than 6,000 visitors daily.

Some gave Trump a pass on the alleged comment, others still fumed on social media.
