A drive-by shooting outside a Boys and Girls Club left three people dead and four injured late Wednesday in Rochester, New York. At least two of those killed were teens.

The attack happened after a group played basketball at the Boys and Girls Club but authorities stressed the incident didn't happen at the facility, reported the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

"A car drove by and at least one of the occupants in the car fired shots from the car into the crowd that had gathered after a basketball game at the Boys and Girls Club," said Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli.

Ciminelli said it appeared that there was no problem at the Boys and Girls Club and the shooting was not connected to the basketball game, but added, "It is still subject to change."

Two people died at the scene while the third died after being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. WKBW-TV identified the two who died at the scene as Jonah Barley, 17, and Raekwon Manigault, 19.

The four injured victims are all males, aged 20 to 29.

"Friends and family of the victims formed a prayer circle just outside of the crime scene Thursday morning to reflect and pray," said the television station. "Many were from Pathways to Peace, a city-run initiative that connects at-risk youth to community resources to try to prevent youth violence."

Manigault's family said he volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club, which was the reason he was at the facility on Wednesday. Barley's family said the teen was a bystander and had just recovered from a car accident that initially had left him in a coma.

Democrat and Chronicle photographer Lauren Petracca told NBC News that the aftermath of the shooting had started to sink in with relatives of the victims when she arrived.

"I could hear people screaming and crying," said Petracca. "A mother of one of the victims arrived and collapsed on the ground screaming, 'No, no, no!' These are sounds I won't forget."
