Drug-laced candy was found in Texas during a burglary investigation with authorities nabbing nearly $1 million of methamphetamine in suburban Houston.
The drug-infused lollipops molded in the shape of "Star Wars" characters and "Batman," were found by deputies in a vehicle at a subdivision west of George Bush Intercontinental Airport, authorities from the Harris County Sheriff's Office told the Houston Chronicle.
Deputies were called to the scene of a burglary and reportedly took two into custody as they tried to leave the scene. KIAH-TV identified the arrested suspects as Evonne Christine Mick and David Salinas.
Ruben Diaz with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said that deputies found a large stash of narcotics inside the vehicle of the apprehended suspects, noted the Chronicle. Deputies found inside the home some 600 pounds of meth pops in shapes such as butterflies, flowers, along with the "Batman" symbol and "Star Wars" characters, reported the Dallas Morning News.
"What if one of these lollipops were dropped in a neighborhood and a child picked it up?" Diaz told the Chronicle, adding that the candy likely sold for $20 to $40 each. "We found the amount of drugs seized from this house was nearly a million dollars in street value. … It affects the entire community when they're targeting kids like this."
Investigators told KIAH-TV that the meth was manufactured inside the home, which is located near a school. The sheriff’s office said officers acted quickly due to concerns of the drugs being sold in the area and its appeal to children, wrote KIAH-TV.
The sheriff's office posted a warning about the drug-laced candy on its Facebook page.
"I don't believe these two people were the actual people making them," a Harris County Sheriff official told KIAH-TV. "The other part of our investigation is going to be trying to figure out who’s actually making them."
