Actor Dwayne Johnson is the most recent celebrity death hoax victim, as Facebook was flooded Sunday with posts saying he died while filming “Fast and Furious 7.”

It was also reported that Johnson fell to his death on the Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand.

Fans posted RIP on Johnson’s Facebook page, and one posted, “Hope he’s ok! Please don’t die The Rock!”

The good news is that the rumor was a hoax, and although The Rock failed to address it outright, he did post a picture to Facebook and Instagram of himself working out.

The popularity of celebrity death hoaxes may be leading more people to check out the truth of death reports before they believe them. Wrote one person on Johnson’s FB, “Dwayne is still here..with us, we love you Dwayne...*hate the rumors ‘the actor is dead.’”

A long list of celebrities have been hit with death hoaxes: Celine Dion, Jackie Chan, Cher, and just this weekend, the WWE's Undertaker.

Tim Stevens of CNET told CBS News that death hoaxes can make some websites a bunch of money when they get a lot of hits reporting the news.

“A site like TMZ makes maybe 100 million page views a month,” Stevens told CBS. “Obviously, these fake sites aren't getting anywhere near that, but if they can get really a fraction of that, they can make tens of thousands of dollars off of one of these fake stories over just a couple of days."
