Elton John announced in an Instagram post that his mother, Sheila Farebrother, died Monday morning.
“So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning. I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock. Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton,” the post read, accompanied by a picture of the two of them together.
Farebrother was 92. John didn’t say how his mother had died.
The two had reconnected recently after a family disagreement caused them not to speak for nine years, Fox News reported.
John has had a tough year, having had to cancel April and May performances because of a long-lasting bacterial infection.
Fans reached out on Twitter to offer condolences for John's loss.
