After months of speculation, "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke has officially been cast as Sarah Connor in the upcoming "Terminator: Genesis" reboot.
Clarke is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's wildly popular fantasy drama series, but now the 26-year-old English actress will take on the part first originated by Linda Hamilton in the 1984 "Terminator" film and the "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" sequel.

According to Deadline.com, Clarke beat out Brie Larson ("21 Jump Street," "Don Jon") for the part of Sarah Connor, the Terminator's target.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has reportedly already signed on to reprise his role as the cyborg sent back in time to assassinate Connor, and
Entertainment Weekly reports that Australian "Zero Dark Thirty" actor Jason Clarke (no relation to Emilia) is in the running to play Connor's son, John.
Alan Taylor, who most recently worked on "Thor: The Dark World," has been tapped to direct.
The Sarah Connor character was revived briefly in 2008 for the short-lived Fox series "The Sarah Connor Chronicles." Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke's "Game of Thrones" co-star, was featured in the titular role.
"Terminator: Genesis" hits theaters July 1, 2015.
