Emily Wickersham has been named as the potential "NCIS" replacement for departing cast member Cote de Pablo.

Wickersham, who has appeared in TV series such as "The Sopranos," "The Bridge," and "Gossip Girl," will be playing the role of Agent Bishop and is scheduled to appear in three episodes, beginning in November, where if her character proves successful, she will potentially fill the void left by the outgoing De Pablo, E! Online reported.

Citing "casting intel," Wickersham's character is described as a "bright, educated, athletic, attractive, fresh-faced, focused, and somewhat socially awkward" character, TVLine.com reported.

On July 9, CBS announced that De Pablo would not be returning following this upcoming season, after the network and actress apparently could not resolve a contract disagreement.

The Chilean-born De Pablo played the character of Ziva David, a strong, smart, and sexy former Mossad officer turned NCIS agent, who joined the team in 2005 following the death of another female agent.

The 33-year-old De Pablo released a statement about her departure in July, but did not explain why she was leaving.

"I've had eight great years with 'NCIS' and Ziva David," De Pablo said. "I have huge respect and affection for Mark [Harmon], Gary [Glasberg], Michael [Weatherly], David [McCallum], Rocky [Carroll], Pauley [Perrette], Brian [Dietzen], Sean [Murray], all of the team and CBS. I look forward to finishing Ziva’s story."

Following the announcement, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves told reporters they did "everything humanly possible" to get De Pablo to change her mind and stay with the show.

"We offered Cote a lot of money and then we offered her even more money," Moonves said at the Television Critics Association meeting this summer. "We really didn't want to lose her. We love her. ... We obviously were in discussion with the rest of the cast and the producers. Ultimately, she decided she didn't want to do the show."

The show follows a fictional team of investigators for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), which investigates criminal cases involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

Now entering its 11th season, which will begin Sept. 24, "NCIS" is the most watched television series in the United States.
