Actress Emma Stone might play Cruella de Vil, one of Disney's most iconic villains, in a live-action spinoff of "101 Dalmatians" that's been in planning since 2013.

In an exclusive report, The Hollywood Reporter said Stone is in "early negotiations" to play the lead in the film, known currently as "Cruella."

The script is being written by Kelly Marcel and Andrew Gunn is producing, THR said, but no director is on board yet.

In 2013, THR was also the first to report that Disney was looking at a live-action movie centered around Cruella, a project similar to other live-action remakes like "Maleficient."

De Vil is the villainess who, swathed in fur and cigarette smoke, taught many young children the word "idiot" in the 1961 animated "101 Dalmatians." Glenn Close played her when the movie was remade in 1996 as a live-action film.

Barely had THR reported that Stone was in talks – early talks – for the role when fan art featuring the actress as de Vil appeared online.

Smosh.com tossed out six reasons Stone is perfect for the role, including the fact that she looks good in any hair color, she's never played a villain, and Emma Stone + Puppies = box office gold.

Not everyone agreed with the idea of Stone as Cruella, however, with some citing her youth as a problem.
