A farm booted Richard Spencer and his white nationalist organization after they had rented the facility in Maryland and were partway through their meeting last weekend, The Washington Post reported.
Spencer, who leads the National Policy Institute, was one of the organizers of a white nationalists rally in August that turned violent in Charlottesville, Virginia, killing a counter-protester who was hit a vehicle, the Post noted.
A third party booked Rockland Farms in Montgomery County, just outside of Washington, D.C. for the National Policy Institute, Spencer told the Post. The institute describes itself as "an independent organization dedicated to the heritage, identity, and future of people of European descent in the United States and around the world."
The conference started at 11 a.m. and Spencer told the Post that by 4 p.m. – four hours before the conference was scheduled to end – they were asked to leave by management after someone working at the event informed them of his presence.
"We didn't lie, we didn't deceive, and we certainly did not break any rules while we were there," Spencer said, according to the Post. "We had sharp words and were obviously disappointed, but there was no confrontation of any kind."
Rockland Farms issued a statement about the incident on its website on Monday.
"Throughout our history of hosting private events, we have never had to ask a group to leave," the Rockland Farms said. "However … we discovered that a private event held here was, in reality, a gathering of an organization that is strongly in opposition to our values.”
"We immediately and politely asked the group to leave. We are grateful that the group agreed to peacefully leave right away. Rocklands Farm absolutely does not support or have any affiliation with the National Policy Institute or similar groups."
Spencer was met by hecklers last month during a speech he gave at the University of Florida in Gainesville, according to the Naples Daily News. Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in Alachua County before the event because of the fear of violence, the newspaper wrote.
