"The area around the building has been secured and the officers are now clearing the incident location," Michael Bowman, a Cobb County police spokesman, told the AP. "This is still an active and fluid situation."
A FedEx spokesperson issued a statement during the police investigation Tuesday morning.
"FedEx is aware of the situation," said Scott Fielder. "Our primary concern is the safety and well being of our team members, first responders and others affected. FedEx is cooperating with authorities."
He later told the
Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the situation at the hub was stable and an investigation has begun.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends," Fielder said to the Journal-Constitution. "We are grateful for the assistance of law enforcement. The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy."
The FedEx hub is located adjacent to Cobb County's general aviation airport and sorts packages for delivery through the Atlanta area. It is located about 25 miles north of Atlanta.
