Tina Fey returned to "SNL" to weigh in on the Charlottesville violence over the weekend.
Speaking during the "Weekend Update" segment, the University of Virginia alumna spoke about the recent white supremacist rallies while devouring a sheet cake.
"I would urge people this Saturday, instead of participating in the screaming matches and potential violence, find a local business to support – maybe a Jewish-run bakery or an African-American-run bakery – order a cake with the American flag on it, and just eat it," she said through mouthfuls of cake.
Drawing comparisons to incidents where Native Americans were shot with rubber bullets during peaceful protests at Standing Rock, Fey pointed out that white supremacists were allowed to carry semi-automatic weapons in protests and not be interrogated by police.
"When you want to yell that, don't yell it at the Klan, yell it into the cake," she said. "’Sheetcaking' is a grassroots movement, Most of the women I know have been doing it once a week since the election."
Within minutes the segment went viral on social media, with sheetcaking gaining its own hashtag and becoming an unofficial verb.
Expanding on the Charlottesville topic, Fey used her appearance on "SNL" as an opportunity to slam President Donald Trump.
Fey ended her skit by stating "I really want to encourage all good, sane Americans to treat these rallies this weekend like the opening of a thoughtful movie with two female leads… don’t show up."
The segment received mixed reactions from Twitter users.
