First lady of France Valerie Trierweiler has been hospitalized since Friday, after learning that
French President Francois Hollande has allegedly had an affair with actress Julie Gayet.
"She needed rest. We are hoping that she will leave the hospital at the beginning of this week," Patrice Biancone,
head of Trierweiler's Elysee office, told CNN.

Though Biancone would not say why Trierweiler was in the hospital, he alluded to the affair as being a contributing factor, adding, "We all know why she went in after the story came out."
On Friday, the French magazine Closer published a seven-page article claiming Hollande had covertly been to Gayet's home. The piece was titled "Francois Hollande and Julie Gayet – The President's Secret Love."
In the pictures, a man resembling Hollande's bodyguard arrives first, followed by a second man on the back of a scooter which the magazine alleges is the French president. The individual's identity is masked by a black helmet.
Hollande, 59, did not deny the alleged affair. However, he immediately protested the magazine's decision to publish the photos,
which he claimed was an invasion of his privacy. He told Agence France-Presse that the report was an "attack on the right to privacy," to which he "like every other citizen has a right [to]."
Sources close to Hollande
told the media that the French president is considering legal action as a response to the publication's decision to run the photos.
Gayet, 41, similarly did not deny the affair, but asked Closer, through her attorney, for the photos to be removed from their website. Closer complied.

Hollande has lived with Trierweiler since 2012; however, the pair is not married. The French president left his common-law wife of nearly 30 years, Segolene Royal, with whom he had four children, for Trierweiler, CNN reported.
Trierweiler is a journalist with Paris Match magazine, and met Hollande while covering his presidential campaign.
