A Florida fisherman's giant shrimp may sound like an oxymoron, but Steve Bargeron's surprise 18-inch haul on the dock at Fort Pierce forced him to grab the crustacean like a lobster.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the animal may actually be a mantis shrimp — which is not really a mantis and not really a shrimp in a
technical sense, WTSP-TV reported. In short, state officials are still not quite sure what to call it, but they made sure to post plenty of pictures on Facebook for record's sake.

"This is why I absolutely love the ocean," Facebook user Kaylee Turner commented. "Considering we only know about 5 percent of what's in the sea, you never know what you might find under the surface and I find that completely captivating."
Officials said Bargeron threw the shrimp-like creature back into the water after taking several picture of it for documentation. Florida Fish and Wildlife said they are continuing to examine the photographs to determine exactly what the species was, WTSP-TV wrote.
