Flooding in North Carolina claimed the lives of two people over the weekend after they were swept away while swimming in a creek.
Members of two Charlotte-area families — Juan Alberdi, 48, of Huntersville, N.C., and Delilah Lovett, 10, of Charlotte — were swimming Saturday evening in Wilson's Creek in Caldwell County, about 100 miles north of Charlotte. They "were immediately swept away in the swift currents," officials said.
The girl's body was recovered nearly an hour later about three-quarters of a mile from where she had been swimming,
Caldwell County spokeswoman LouAnn Kincaid told CNN.

Alberdi's body was found Sunday.
Heavy rains, which had stopped by the time the swimmers went out, had raised Wilson's Creek almost two feet above normal levels and created "very swift currents," the sheriff's department said in a statement.
Lincoln County — which is just south of Catawba County and about 35 miles northwest of Charlotte — saw 8 to 10 inches of rain in 12 hours, county emergency management spokesman Dion Burleson told CNN.
Catawba County spokesman Jim Dickerson said crews there were checking out reports of damage to 130 homes and other buildings. Damage assessment teams found that seven homes and three businesses suffered major damage, and more than two-dozen roads are closed or impassible due to standing water or flood damage, county officials said.
