HBO executives told reporters at the TCA awards that "Game of Thrones" will continue "as long as there are stories to tell," contrary to earlier reports that the show would last only seven seasons.
"As far as I'm concerned it can go on as long as there are stories to tell," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said, according to UPI. "I know there are concerns about catching up with the books."
"Our line to George was, 'You keep writing!'" CEO Richard Plepler added.
Meanwhile,
Netflix's “House of Cards,” which has generated significant buzz since its debut this year and was the first Netflix series to be nominated for an Emmy, got shut out at the TCA awards. “House of Cards” was up for Outstanding New Program and Program of the Year. FX's “The Americans” won Outstanding New Program.
Other winners included Louis C.K., for FX’s “Louie,” Individual Achievement in Comedy; ABC’s “Shark Tank” for Best Reality Programming; HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra” for Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries or Special; and there was a tie for Best Comedy Series between CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” and NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.” Barbara Walters won a Career Achievement Award.
One of the award show’s highlights was when Norman Lear’s “All in the Family” won a Heritage Award.
“Thank you TCA for the last 40 years. You didn’t like us at all at the beginning,” Lear said during his acceptance speech. “You were like my mother. She called after the first ['All in the Family'] show and said, ‘You have to flush a toilet?’ And … Life magazine said of that toilet flush, ‘You should flush the whole show.’ That was the beginning.”
