At least 37 people died Wednesday when a bus leaving the Genting Highlands resort in Pahang, Malaysia, crashed and fell more than 100 feet down into a ravine.
Calling the accident the country's worst road tragedy ever,
The Star Online reported 37 fatalities — 24 males and 13 females — and 16 people injured.
Fire and Rescue Department Deputy Director-general Datuk Soiman Jahid said the driver, who died in the crash, lost control of the bus as it was traveling downhill toward Kuala Lumpur and slammed into a road divider before tumbling down the ravine.

Police are investigating claims that the bus was overloaded. There were reportedly 53 passengers on board, which exceeds the maximum capacity of 44 people.
"Whether this tragedy was caused by bad bus or road conditions, human negligence, or other factors, we need to know it fast so that action can be taken to rectify the problem," Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told The Star Online. "The Genting Highlands road is a very important route used by many tourists on a daily basis, thus the enforcement of all relevant laws must be given priority to ensure it remains safe."
The previous record for the deadliest road incident was December 20, 2010, when an express bus, also on its way down from Genting Highlands, hit a divider and overturned,
killing 27 people onboard, including the driver, according to Yahoo! News Singapore.
