Actor George Clooney blasted Donald Trump on Monday after the president-elect called actress Meryl Streep "overrated" following her Golden Globes speech on Sunday night berating him.
Streep used her speech in accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award to criticize the incoming president for comments he made about a disabled reporter while he was on the campaign trail in 2015, noted CNN.
"There was one performance this year that stunned me," Streep said in her speech, reported CNN, pointing to Trump's controversial comments about reporter Serge Kovaleski. "It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it, but it was effective and it did its job.
"It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back."
Trump, who has long denied that he mocked the reporter, fired back Monday in a series of tweets Monday.
Clooney, who supported Hillary Clinton in the election, responded to Trump's comments at a reception hosted by The Clooney Foundation for Justice on Monday, says People magazine.
"I've always said that about Meryl," Clooney told People sarcastically. "She's maybe the most overrated actress of all-time. She and I worked together on 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' as husband and wife and I will tell you even as a fox, a female fox, she’s overrated. Aren't you supposed to be running the country?"
Clooney's wife Amal Clooney, an international human rights attorney, has been critical of Trump in the past. She charged in November that she believed some of the president-elect's campaign proposals on torture and targeting families of suspected terrorists would violate international law, noted The Hollywood Reporter.
