George H.W. Bush Joins Twitter at Age 89, Tweets About Mandela

Former President George H.W. Bush proved Twitter isn't just for youngins when the 89-year-old signed up on the social media site this week.

His first tweet paid tribute to former South African president Nelson Mandela and the citizens of his nation.

Barbara and I wish we could have joined the U.S. delegation honoring President Mandela today. He, and his countrymen, are in our prayers.

Due to his health, Bush was the only living president who did not travel to Johannesburg for the memorial service.

Jim McGrath, the president's spokesman, verified the account was authentic.

Bush now has digital bragging rights over his son, Bush 43. The younger Bush has not tweeted at all.
