Glen Campbell, the legendary country musician suffering from Alzheimer's, will release his final single, "I'm Not Going to Miss You," on Sept. 30 to digital retailers, a month before a documentary on the travails of the five-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter hits theaters.
The song, described by
Rolling Stone magazine as a "poignant, confessional tune" co-written by Campbell and Julian Raymond was produced for the documentary "Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me," which will be released in October, noted the magazine.
"(The song) deals with the heartbreaking realities of Alzheimer's and the losses that Campbell has faced since he was diagnosed with the disease in 2001," wrote Stephen Betts of Rolling Stone. "The documentary further details what the entertainer's life has been like and how his family has coped with the struggle, which has had the 78-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member admitted to a special care facility in Nashville."

People magazine reported in March that Campbell was moved to a memory care facility in Nashville by his wife Kim Woolen with the support of many of his children and family members as the disease progressed.
"There were five of us taking care of him and we were all completely exhausted," Woolen told People then. "No one was getting any sleep and we were just struggling every second to keep him safe – we felt like it wasn't safe anymore."
Ashley Campbell, 27, the singer's daughter, told the magazine that the move was out of safety for her father.
"(It can be dangerous) with all the household appliances and dish soap liquid and olive oil," Ashley Campbell told People. "He'll drink anything ... if you lose concentration for a second, he could hurt himself."
Some family members, though, were not on board with the move. Campbell's eldest daughter Debby, who was a member of Campbell's traveling band, told Country Weekly that she was angered that she heard about the move to the facility through news media reports.
Debby Campbell charged that family members were not spending enough time with their famous father and objected to the move to the memory facility. Kim Woolen, though said the 2012 tour was a way for everyone, including Debby Campbell to spend more time with their father.
